DESCRIPTION:Join us for a new program series about Miami’s history\, from early settlers to its current evolution into a global city. Discussion points will include immigration\, civil rights\, gentrification\, and other topics that help tell the story of the Magic City. \nIn our first program\, hear accounts from local community members about their immigration experiences\, including the challenges and opportunities they faced after coming to the United States. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPanel Discussion- Shaping South Florida: Immigration Stories.\nJan Mapou (Jean-Marie Denis) is an author\, playwright\, director\, arts advocate and the owner of Libreri Mapou (Mapou Bookstore) in Little Haiti. He is the co-founder of the Haitian Cultural Arts Alliance and the recipient of the Folklife Award from the State of Florida. \nRosie Gordon-Wallace is the founder and curator of Diaspora Vibe Gallery and Diaspora Vibe Cultural Arts Incubator. She an active community advocate\, serving on the boards of several institutions. Rosie has received numerous awards for her contributions to the cultural community. \nJuan Jose Menendez\, better known as Pepe\, is a Miami transplant\, originally from Cuba\, who has conducted tours of South Florida history and culture for HistoryMiami Museum for the past ten years \nModerator: Lizette Alvarez is an award-winning journalist and freelance writer. \nFREE and open to the public.
