SUMMARY:A People’s History of South Florida Program Series sponsored by the Marcia J. Kanner Memorial Fund
DESCRIPTION:his program series looks at Miami’s history\, from early settlers to its current evolution into a global city. Discussion points will include immigration\, civil rights\, gentrification\, and other topics that help tell the story of the Magic City. \n\n\n\nPanel Discussion: Art and Community\n\n\n\nFREE and open to the public. \n\n\n\nJoin us for a conversation about the role art plays in shaping and supporting communities and vice versa. Speakers will talk about the many ways art can connect with a community by impacting the physical\, economic\, social and cultural elements of society. \n\n\n\nFeatured speakers include: \n\n\n\nDaniel Fila\, also known as Krave\, is a multifaceted artist whose work ranges from mural installations to figurative and abstract paintings\, as well as animations\, and sculptural reliefs. Credited for being Miami’s premiere urban artist\, Fila is best known for his signature character The Fresh Monkey found hidden in most of his work. He is based in Little Havana. \n\n\n\nMikhaile Solomon\, founder and Director of Prizm Art Fair. Born and raised in Miami\, Florida\, Solomon is a member of Miami’s New Leaders Council\, and a member of Connect Florida\, a leadership program focusing on developing Florida’s existing and emerging leaders. \n\n\n\nDiana Contreras\, has established herself as an influential Miami artist. From painting murals in the Urban Art scene to displaying canvas pieces in galleries\, her work has been seen in exhibitions and private collections internationally\, including the Street Art Dubai Gallery in Dubai. \n\n\n\nModerated by Dr. Jacek J. Kolasinski\, founding Director of the Ratcliffe Incubator of Art + Design in the FIU College of Communication\, Architecture + The Arts\, is an Associate Professor of Art at the Art + Art History Department at Florida International University where he has served as the  Department  Chair for half of the decade. \n\n\n\nRSVP here.\n\n\n\nLight refreshments available.
