SUMMARY:CultureFest 305: Origami and Calligraphy Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Get creative with master folk artist Mieko Kubota during this live workshop on the Japanese traditions of origami (paper folding) and calligraphy (artistic writing). Using materials from home\, follow along as Mieko guides you through the process of creating paper sculptures and writing calligraphy.\nTo participate\, please have the following materials available: pieces of paper cut into squares (3 inches\, 6 inches\, or 10 inches in length)\, blank sheets of paper\, and a marker.\n \n \n \n\n\n\n\nIf you’d like to chat with us and ask Mieko questions during the program\, please join us on Zoom. TTY users may also call 711 (Florida Relay Service).\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Mieko:\n\nMieko Kubota practices various Japanese traditions including ikebana (flower arranging)\, origami (paper folding)\, calligraphy and the tea ceremony. A master ikebana artist with over fifty years of experience\, she creates arrangements that both adhere to tradition and reflect modern sensibilities. She is a former president of the Miami chapter of Ikebana International and won the Florida Folk Heritage Award in 2010. She was also HistoryMiami Museum’s artist-in-residence in 2012.
