DESCRIPTION:Connect with the past on a walking tour of the Miami City Cemetery with HistoryMiami Museum’s Coordinator of Education Programs and Community Engagement\, Ingrid E. Argueta\, and its Resident Historian\, Dr. Paul S. George. Founded in 1897\, just a year after the city’s incorporation\, this historic graveyard is a monument to so many of the people who helped shape the early history of the Magic City. Hear stories of notable Miami residents\, including the civil rights leader Reverend Theodore Gibson\, “Mother of Miami” Julia Tuttle\, and Bernard Mackey of the Ink Spots Quartet. View the final resting place of Carrie B. Miller\, the woman encased in cement. \n\n\n\nAll are welcome to come as you are or in costume. Ticket includes complimentary family pass to HistoryMiami Museum. \n\n\n\nFeatured Speakers:\n\n\n\nIngrid E. Argueta\, Coordinator of Education Programs and Community Engagement at HistoryMiami Museum\n\n\n\nIngrid E. Argueta was born in Guatemala and immigrated to Miami when she was 7 years old. Although not a native Miamian\, she is a 305-er at heart. Ingrid has remained true to her indigenous roots and is passionate about Native American history and culture. She is best known for her eco-history tours of Miami’s historic sites\, neighborhoods\, and waterways. Ingrid is the Coordinator of Education Programs and Community Engagement at HistoryMiami Museum and has been with the museum since 2013. \n\n\n\nDr. Paul S. George\, Resident Historian at HistoryMiami Museum\n\n\n\nFor over three decades\, HistoryMiami Museum’s Resident Historian Dr. Paul S. George has toured his way to local\, national\, and international acclaim with his continuing series of historic tours. Through walking\, coach\, and boat tour experiences\, Dr. George has welcomed tour participants on a memorable journey of South Florida through its historic neighborhoods\, landmarks\, and sites.
